The Creating Brave Spaces 2024 Spring Series is produced in partnership with the FHS Office of Equity and Inclusion.
The lead facilitators and standardized actors are supported by the McMaster Gender and Health Grant.
The project benefits from collaboration with and support from the Department of Family Medicine, the MERIT community, the Waterloo Regional Campus, the Midwifery Graduate Program, the Centre for Simulation-Based Learning and the Office of Continuing Professional Development.
Target Audience
Health professions faculty members and staff members at the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this learning activity, the learners will be able to:
- Define and identify covert and overt anti-black microaggressions.
- Differentiate situations where calling in or calling out would be more appropriate.
- Gain one technique in disarming microaggressions.
Agenda
This two-hour session will begin with an introduction to foundational concepts, followed by simulated interactions with standardized actors. Participants will have the opportunity to practice skills in disarming a microaggression.
