Overview
The Health and Wellness Coach (HWC) Professional Certification Program at McMaster University’s CPD Office is a nationally recognized program that equips health professionals with essential health coaching skills. Approved by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC), this program offers advanced training in lifestyle and wellness coaching, chronic disease management, cultural safety, and legal issues. Designed for health professionals and international practitioners, it combines theoretical knowledge with practical experience through simulations and interactive learning, preparing participants to deliver culturally safe and evidence-based health coaching services.

First and only National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) approved training program in Canada.
Collaboration with the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME):
- To support the management of chronic diseases and complexity of diseases using health coaching skills.
- To train health professionals to prevent or reduce secondary conditions for disease populations or high-risk populations in their clinical practice.
Requirements
Health professionals working in primary care, community care, specialty clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, and other clinical settings; OR
Regulated health professionals with active licences who want to start their own health coaching practice OR international health professionals (e.g., IENs and IMGs).
